1.About these Terms
1.1 Who We are: We are Legal & General Resources Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company registration number 02334263. Our registered office is at One Coleman Street, London, EC2R 5AA. Our VAT registration number is GB244155478. We are part of the Legal & General Group.
1.2 What these Terms are: These Terms explain how You may use and access Legal & General Self Service. These Terms apply between Legal & General and You.
1.3 What the Terms apply to: These Terms apply to Legal & General Self Service, its functionality and Content provided to You.
1.4 When these Terms will apply: You will be asked to confirm that You accept these Terms the first time You log in to Legal & General Self Service and each time We update the Terms. We may also ask You to reconfirm Your acceptance of these Terms from time to time.
1.5 Please read the Terms: You should read these Terms carefully before using Legal & General Self Service, which are legally binding on You and Legal & General. If You do not agree with any of these Terms, You should not confirm that You accept them and should not use Legal & General Self Service. If You would like these Terms in another format please contact Us.
1.6 Legal & General Products
(A) Whilst accessing Legal & General Self Service You may see and access Legal & General Product Content. When You access such Legal & General Product Content, You acknowledge and agree that Legal & General Products are provided by the relevant regulated Legal & General Product Provider, which is regulated entity within the Legal & General Group that has the relevant authorisations and/or permissions to make Legal & General Products available to You.

a) Legal & General (Unit Trust Managers) Limited. Registered in England and Wales No. 01009418. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Financial Services Register number 119273).
b) Legal & General (Portfolio Management Services) Limited. Registered in England and Wales No. 02457525. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Financial Services Register number 146786).
(2) Pensions & Retirement products are provided by:
a) Legal & General (Portfolio Management Services) Limited. Registered in England and Wales No. 2457525. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Financial Services Register number 146786).
b) Legal and General Assurance Society Limited. Registered in England and Wales No.166055.Authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. (Financial Services Register number 117659).
c) Trust-Based Occupational Pension Schemes are authorised and regulated by The Pensions Regulator. Administrator: Legal & General Assurance Society Limited. Registered in England and Wales No. 00166055. Legal and General Assurance Society is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority (Financial Services Register number 117659). However, the administration of occupational pension schemes is not regulated by the FCA or PRA.
d) Legal & General Home Finance Limited. Registered in England and Wales No. 04896447. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Regulatory Authority (Financial Services Register number 303418).

(6) The relevant Legal & General Product Provider is responsible for Your Legal & General Products and associated Legal & General Product terms, Legal & General Product Content and any associated advertising or marketing distributed relating to the relevant Legal & General Products.
(7) The application and underlying technology and any Legal & General Content is provided by Legal & General Resources Limited.
(B) Nothing contained in or on Legal & General Self Service constitutes technical, financial or legal advice or any other type of advice (including, without limitation, in relation to Legal & General Products) and it should not be relied on for any of these purposes. You must always use Your own independent judgement (or, if necessary, obtain Your own independent specialist advice) when using Legal & General Self Service or before acquiring or receiving Legal & General Products.
(C) Separate terms and conditions apply to Legal & General Products You purchase or receive from Legal & General Product Providers and Your use of the Legal & General Website and/or the Legal & General App. Additionally, if You are directed to another of Our sites separate terms and conditions may apply. If there is any conflict between these Terms and the terms and conditions for Your Legal & General Products, Legal & General App and/or the other sites, the terms and conditions for Your Legal & General Products, Legal & General App and/or the other sites will apply rather than the equivalent provision in these Terms.
(D) If You cannot locate or do not have access to Your Legal & General Product terms and would like another copy, please contact Us.
1.7 Contact: If You need to get in touch with Us, please see the Contact Us page. If We need to get in touch with You, We will do so by email based on the latest contact details associated with Your Legal & General Account.
1.8 Legal & General Account: To be able to access Legal & General Self Service You must have a Legal & General Account in Your name. If You no longer have access to a Legal & General Account, You must stop using or accessing Legal & General Self Service. If You create Your Online Credentials through the Legal & General App, You can also use them to log in to Legal & General Self Service. You will receive Your Online Credentials once You complete the registration process.
2. Definitions
In these Terms, We use terminology/words which We have given a particular meaning. These defined terms are usually indicated by the relevant words which make up the defined term being in upper case. If You see a word in these Terms that is capitalised then You should check this clause to see if it has a particular or special meaning.
We have set out these defined terms used in these Terms in the table below:

“App Store” | means a mobile application store through which You can download, the Legal & General App (such as the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store). |
“Content” | means Legal & General Content and Legal & General Product Content. |
“Electronic Instructions” | means an electronically transmitted instruction relating to Your Legal & General Products made through Legal & General Self Service. |
“External Services” | means services, advertising, mobile applications and/or websites that are not owned, provided or operated by any member of the Legal & General Group. |
“Joint Holders” | means each of the joint holders of a Legal & General Product purchased on a joint basis. |
“Legal & General Account” | means an account associated with Your Legal & General Product(s). |
“Legal & General App” | means the mobile application made available via an App Store and provided to users by Legal & General (Portfolio Management Services) Limited. |
“Legal & General Content” | means any text, logos, images, video, audio or other multimedia content, software or other information or material submitted to or accessible from Legal & General Self Service which is not Legal & General Product Content. |
“Legal & General Group” | means Legal & General Group PLC and any of its affiliates from time to time, including Legal & General Resources Limited and the Legal & General Product Providers. |
“Legal & General Product Content” | means any text, logos, images, video, audio or other multimedia content, software or other information or material submitted to or accessible from Legal & General Self Service which is related to Legal & General Products. |
“Legal & General Product Provider” | means the relevant legal entity within the Legal & General Group that is authorised and/or permitted to provide the relevant Legal & General Products. |
“Legal & General Products” | means the various Savings & Investments, Pensions & Retirement and Insurance products offered by the Legal & General Group to You from time to time by a Legal & General Product Provider, each of which will be subject to, and governed by, separate terms and conditions. |
“Legal & General Self Service” | means the Legal & General online self-service tools which include, without limitation, ‘My Account’, ‘Manage Your Account’ and ‘Online Self Service’ and described and accessed here (My Account Log in | Legal & General (legalandgeneral.com). |
“Legal & General Website” | means the Legal & General website provided by Legal & General Resources Limited. |
“Legal & General”, “Our”, “Us” or “We” | means Legal & General Resources Limited, part of the Legal & General Group. |
“Online Activities” | means the activities You can carry out using Legal & General Self Service from time to time, including the placing of Electronic Instructions, viewing of Your Legal & General Account(s), monitoring performance of Your Legal & General Products and the services branded as ‘My Account’ or ‘Manage Your Account’. |
“Online Credentials” | means the online login details which You create when You sign up for digital services through the Legal & General App or the Legal & General Self Service Portal (which includes Your username, password and PIN). |
“Terms” | means these Legal & General Digital Services Self Service Terms and Conditions. |
“You”, “Your”, “User” | means you, the person accessing or using Legal & General Self Service. |
3. Legal & General Self Service
3.1 Using Legal & General Self Service and accessing Online Activities: Legal & General Self Service will, among other things, allow You to carry out Online Activities. Legal & General Self Service has not been tailored to Your specific requirements or circumstances and is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
3.2 Our licence to You: We give You (and only You) a licence to access and use Legal & General Self Service (and any related updates) and to access Content provided You have met the criteria set out in paragraph 1.8 above and followed all of the provisions in these Terms. The licence does not cover or include Your access to, purchase of or use of any Legal & General Products.
3.3 You do not own Legal & General Self Service: You do not own Legal & General Self Service or any of its contents, but You may use it as permitted by these Terms.
3.4 Restrictions on Your Legal & General Self Service use: You are not permitted to:
a) copy, reverse engineer, modify, adapt, duplicate, create derivative works from, display or commercially exploit any parts of Legal & General Self Service, including either directly or through the use of another app or piece of software; or
b) deliberately attempt to avoid or manipulate any security features included in Legal & General Self Service.
3.5 Updates or changes to Legal & General Self Service: We may update or amend Legal & General Self Service from time to time for reasons that include fixing bugs or enhancing, changing or removing functionality. We will use reasonable efforts to notify You of material changes.
3.6 Failures of networks or hardware: Legal & General Self Service relies on a number of things working properly to enable You to enjoy all of its features. Many of these, such as Your internet connection, are entirely outside of Our control. Although We will do what We reasonably can to resolve issues.
3.7 Legal & General Self Service Support: We are responsible for customer service in relation to Legal & General Self Service and can help You if You are having any issues. If You need support You should contact Us via the methods listed above.
4. Using Legal & General Self Service and security
4.1 Legal & General may refuse registration: We may refuse, end or suspend registration for Legal & General Self Service to anyone at any time.
4.2 Security information We need from You: In order to protect the security of Legal & General Self Service, Your Legal & General Account and/or Online Credentials, We may periodically update the information We require. If We make a change like this We will notify and ask You to provide the updated information. If You do not provide the information within the timeframe set out in the request, We may suspend Your access to Legal & General Self Service.
4.3 You must keep Your Online Credentials secure: You are responsible for making sure that Your Online Credentials are kept secure and confidential. Things You should do include, but are not limited to, not allowing anyone else to have or use Your Online Credentials and not disclosing them to anyone, including the police and Us, except when registering. You must also ensure that account information is kept up to date.
4.4 We won’t contact You to ask about security details: After registration We will never contact You, or ask anyone to do so on Our behalf, with a request to disclose Your Legal & General Account details or Online Credentials in full. If You receive a request like this from anyone (even if they are using the Legal & General name and logo and appear to be genuine), You must not supply Your security details to them in any circumstances. You should report such requests to Us immediately using Our contact details listed in clause 1.7.
4.5 If there’s a security issue: If We have reason to believe there is likely to be a breach of security or inappropriate use of any Legal & General Platform, We may notify You and require You to change Your Online Credentials.
4.6 Details of Your Legal & General Products are available: You acknowledge and understand that details of Your holdings in or information relating to Your Legal & General Products will be held on a system that can be accessed via the internet and that detail of Your holdings in or information relating to Your Legal & General Products can be obtained by input of Your Legal & General Account details or Online Credentials.
4.7 Electronic Instructions
(A) Using Legal & General Self Service for Electronic Instructions: You may use Legal & General Self Service to place Electronic Instructions in relation to Your Legal & General Products as set out in Legal & General Self Service. However, You will not be able to issue Electronic Instructions for Products that You hold jointly with a Joint Holder. For these products, Legal & General requires the written agreement of all Joint Holders to process instructions.
(B) We will act in accordance with a valid Electronic Instruction: We will conduct the actions required under an Electronic Instruction, which may include, for example deducting and/or crediting amounts related to Legal & General Products or updating nominated beneficiaries.
(C) You need to ensure that instructions are correct as You will be responsible: You must ensure all transaction details are correct before sending/transmitting Electronic Instructions to Us.
(D) We will provide confirmation of acceptance: We will provide confirmation of acceptance of Your Electronic Instructions in accordance with the relevant Legal & General Product terms. We recommend that You keep a record of this confirmation.
(E) You should let Us know of any issues with Electronic Instructions
(1) You should let Us know as soon as possible if: (a) You do not receive confirmation of acceptance within 10 days of placing an Electronic Instruction; or (b) You believe there is an error in the confirmation of acceptance; or (c) You believe an Electronic Instruction has been made in error.
(2) If You fail to notify Us as soon as possible of any of these circumstances occurring, You will be deemed to have accepted the terms of the transactions as stated in the confirmation provided to You by Us.
(F) Fraud prevention and where We refuse to act: We may carry out fraud prevention checks in relation to an Electronic Instruction and may refuse to act on an Electronic Instruction:
(1) if We are permitted to do so under the terms of Your Legal & General Product;
(2) if We are not reasonably satisfied that the Electronic Instruction is lawful;
(3) if We consider Legal & General Self Service or the Online Activities have been or are likely to be used inappropriately;
(4) if We consider that the Online Activities have been carried out with for a purpose that is not in accordance with these Terms; or
(5) for fraud prevention purposes.
If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies to prevent fraud and money laundering. If We refuse to act on an Electronic Instruction, We will make reasonable efforts to tell You, with reasons for the refusal (if possible) and any factual errors that led to the refusal. We may not be able to do this where the law means We cannot do so. Further details explaining how the information by fraud prevention agencies may be used can be obtained by contacting Us.
5. Inappropriate User behaviour
5.1 Acceptable use: As a condition of Your use of Legal & General Self Service, You agree not to:
(A) inappropriately or maliciously use or attack Legal & General Self Service by knowingly introducing viruses or other harmful material;
(B) break the law or encourage any unlawful activity;
(C) send or upload anything that is (or might be considered to be) defamatory, offensive, obscene or discriminatory;
(D) infringe Legal & General Group’s or anyone else’s intellectual property rights (for example, by using or uploading someone else’s content); or
(E) do anything We may consider to be inappropriate or harmful.
5.2 What to do if You think something in Legal & General Self Service is inappropriate: If You believe that any Content which is distributed by or published on Legal & General Self Service is inappropriate You should contact Us immediately.
6. Your information
6.1 Personal Information: Your privacy and personal information are important to Us. Any personal information that You provide to Us will be dealt with in line with Our privacy policy available here, which explains what personal information We collect from You, how and why We collect, store, use and share such information, Your rights in relation to Your personal information and how to contact Us and supervisory authorities in the event You have a query or complaint about the use of Your personal information. 6.2 Technical Information: We may collect and use technical data that might include, for example, the specifications of Your device and its software in order to help Us provide software updates, product support, and other services related to Legal & General Self Service.
7. Ownership, use and intellectual property rights
7.1 Legal & General and its licensors’ intellectual property: The intellectual property rights (including, but not limited to, all copyright, trade marks, domain names, design rights, database rights and patents) in Legal & General Self Service and in Content are owned by Us and Our licensors. We and Our licensors reserve all intellectual property rights whether registered or unregistered anywhere in the world. This means, for example, that We and Our licensors remain owners of them and are free to use them as We (and they) see fit.
7.2 Your limited rights in Legal & General Self Service and Content: Nothing in these Terms grants You any legal rights in Legal & General Self Service or the Content other than as necessary for You to access it. You agree not to adjust, try to circumvent or delete any notices contained on Legal & General Self Service or the Content (including any intellectual property notices) and in particular, in any digital rights or other security technology embedded or contained within Legal & General Self Service or the Content.
7.3 What to do if another party claims Your use infringes their intellectual property: If any third-party claims that Legal & General Self Service or Your possession of, access to and use of Legal & General Self Service infringes their intellectual property rights:
(A) You should notify Us immediately as soon as You become aware of such a third-party claim; and
(B) the Legal & General Group will be responsible for investigating the claim and, where appropriate, for defending, settling and/or discharging it.
8. Submitting information to Us via Legal & General Self Service and Online Activities
8.1 We do not actively check information: While We implement measures to make sure that Legal & General Self Service and Online Activities are secure, We do not actively monitor or check whether information supplied to Us through Legal & General Self Service or Online Activities is confidential, commercially sensitive or valuable.
8.2 Use of information: Other than any personal information which We will deal with in accordance with Our privacy policy, information relating to (and including) Your Electronic Instructions which will be dealt with in accordance with clause 4.7 and any information relating to your use of Legal & General Products which will be dealt with in accordance with the terms and conditions that apply to the relevant Legal & General Product, We do not guarantee that information supplied to Us through Legal & General Self Service or Online Activities will be kept confidential and We may use it on an unrestricted and free-of-charge basis.
9. Accuracy of information and availability of Legal & General Self Service, Content and Online Activities
9.1 No promises about accuracy: We try to make sure that Legal & General Self Service is accurate, up to date and free from bugs, but We cannot promise that it will be or that you will always be able to use it to carry out Online Activities without delay or restriction. Any reliance that You may place on the information on Legal & General Self Service is at Your own risk.
9.2 Content is for Your information: Any Content is provided by Legal & General Group for Your general information purposes only and to inform You about the Legal & General Group’s products and news, features, services and other websites that may be of interest.
9.3 Not tailored to Your requirements: Legal & General Self Service, Content or Online Activities have not been tailored to Your specific requirements or circumstances and they are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Nothing contained in Legal & General Self Service, Content or Online Activities constitutes technical, financial or legal advice or any other type of advice and they should not be relied on for any purposes. You should always use Your own independent judgement when using Legal & General Self Service.
9.4 Availability of Legal & General Self Service and Online Activities: While We try to make sure that Legal & General Self Service and Online Activities are available for Your use, We do not promise that Legal & General Self Service or the Online Activities will be available at all times or that Your use of Legal & General Self Service or the Online Activities will be uninterrupted.
10. External Services
10.1 External Services: Legal & General Self Service may contain hyperlinks or references to, or allow You to access, External Services. Any such access, hyperlinks or references are provided for Your convenience only.
10.2 We are not responsible for External Services: You understand that:
(A) the Legal & General Group has no control over External Services and accept no legal responsibility for any content, material or information contained in them;
(B) the display of any hyperlink and reference to any External Services does not mean that Legal & General or any member of the Legal & General Group endorses that third party's website, products or services; and
(C) the Legal & General Group is not responsible for examining or evaluating the content or accuracy of these External Services. Before using them, make sure You have read and agreed to the terms on which they are being offered to You including the way in which they may use Your personal information.
10.3 External Services might have their own rules: Your use of External Services may be governed by the terms and conditions of the third-party that operates or owns them and is at Your own risk. You must not use External Services in any way that:
(A) is inconsistent with these Terms or with the terms of the External Service; or
(B) infringes Our intellectual property rights, or the intellectual property rights of any third party.
10.4 We can change links to External Services: From time to time, We may change or remove the External Services that are made available through Legal & General Self Service.
11. Our responsibility to You
11.1 Where We are liable: If We breach these Terms or are negligent, We may be liable to You for foreseeable loss or damage that You suffer as a result. By ‘foreseeable’ We mean that, at the time these Terms were formed, it was either clear that such loss or damage would occur or You and We both knew that it might reasonably occur, as a result of something We did (or failed to do).
11.2 Where We are not liable: There are some things that We are not responsible to You for because, for example, they are out of Our control or relate to how Your device works. Therefore, We cannot be responsible:
(A) for any loss or damage that was not foreseeable, any loss or damage not caused by Our breach or negligence, or any business loss or damage;
(B) under these Terms for anything not related to the use of Legal & General Self Service;
(C) for incorrect or incomplete Electronic Instructions or Electronic Instructions are not carried out for reasons that are not Our fault;
(D) if You do not keep Your account and other security details confidential;
(E) if You are unable to use all or any part of Legal & General Self Service due to a poor internet connection or faulty components in Your device;
(F) for External Services; or
(G) for anything that is out of Our reasonable control or it would not be reasonable to expect Us to control.
11.3 The limit on how much We are liable for: If We are liable to You under these Terms then, except for what is set out in clause 11.4, the amount We are liable to You for will not be more than £5,000.
11.4 What We can’t exclude or limit: Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits Our liability for any death or personal injury caused by Our negligence, liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that the law does not allow Us to exclude or limit.
12. Suspending or closing accounts
12.1 We can end or suspend your use of Legal & General Self Service: We may suspend Your access to or end Your use of Legal & General Self Service (and the Legal & General App if relevant and in accordance with the applicable Legal & General App terms) as We see fit, including but not limited to if You use a Legal & General Platform in an inappropriate manner, in breach of these Terms, if You do not provide Us with the information needed under clause 4 or if there is a breach of security.
12.2 We will generally give You notice if We suspend or end Legal & General Self Service: We will endeavour to provide You with reasonable notice before We take an action set out in clause 12.1 but if what You have done is serious then We may end Your use of Legal & General Self Service immediately and without advance notice to You. ‘Serious’ includes activities such as You causing harm (or attempting to cause harm) to other users, interfering with the operation of any Legal & General Platform; or doing anything that We think presents a big enough risk to justify Us ending the Terms and Your use of Legal & General Self Service quickly.
12.3 What happens if We take an action under clause 12.1? If We suspend Your access to Legal & General Self Service, You will not be allowed to use Legal & General Self Service for a certain period of time. If We end Your use of Legal & General Self Service, You will not be allowed to use Legal & General Self Service and We may also delete or suspend access to any other accounts that You hold with Us for online or digital services.
12.4 How you can end Your use of Legal & General Self Service: If You want to end Your use of Legal & General Self Service, You can simply stop using it or contact Us using the contact details set out above.
13. No third party rights
No one other than Legal & General or You has any right to enforce any term of these Terms.
14. Variation of these Terms
14.1 Changes only permitted under this clause: No changes to these Terms are valid or have any effect unless made in accordance with this clause 14.
14.2 Legal & General may amend the Terms:
(A) We may vary these Terms from time to time (including, but not limited, to reflect changes in Legal & General Self Service’s functionality, to deal with a security threat or if there is a change in the law, regulation or guidance).
(B) Updated Terms will be displayed in Legal & General Self Service and by continuing to use and access Legal & General Self Service following such changes, You agree to be bound by any variation made by Us. It is generally Your responsibility to check these Terms from time to time to verify and understand any variations.
(C) If We make a material change to these Terms, We will notify You when You next log in to Legal & General Self Service. If You do not accept the changes, You will not be able to continue to use Legal & General Self Service.
15. Complaints
15.1 If You have a complaint: We will try to resolve any disputes with You quickly and efficiently. If You are unhappy with Us or Legal & General Self Service, please contact Us as soon as possible.
15.2 What laws apply to these Terms? The laws of England and Wales apply to these Terms, although if You are resident elsewhere You will retain the benefit of any mandatory protections given to You by the laws of that country.
15.3 Which courts can rule on the Terms? Any disputes will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. This means that You can choose whether to bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales or in the courts of another part of the UK in which You live.
16. Transferring these Terms
16.1 Our right to transfer: We may transfer Our rights under these Terms to another Legal & General Group entity without Your consent, but We will endeavour to notify You of the transfer and make sure that You are not adversely affected as a result.
16.2 You can’t transfer without Our permission: You are not allowed to transfer Your rights under these Terms to anyone without Our prior written consent.
