To complement your State Pension, your employer has set up a pension arrangement with Legal & General to help you save for your retirement. This website contains helpful information to help you decide if saving into this pension plan is right for you.

You pay 6% of your salary into SAUL Start and your employer pays 15%. The real cost to you is less than 6% because you save tax and, if your employer offers Salary Sacrifice, you’ll pay less National Insurance too.

No. We don’t currently offer the option of paying more than 6% of your salary into SAUL Start.

No, you won’t be able to carry on paying into SAUL Start if you join the salary-related plan after three years. But you can choose to stay in SAUL Start if you prefer. We’ll contact you three months before you complete three years in SAUL Start to explain your options.

You will be contacted by Legal & General to tell you the options that are available to you.

The Trustee sets your retirement age for you, to age 66, but you can change it to a different age. The earliest you can choose is normally your 55th birthday.

Your retirement age is used for illustration purposes (estimating how much you'll get when you come to take your pension savings) and is also used with a lifestyle investment option. So it's important that your retirement age reflects your plans.

If at any time you'd like to change your retirement age (and if applicable, the corresponding Target Date Fund) all you need to do is log in to Manage Your Account or get in touch with us.

You can update your details online by logging in to Manage Your Account and select ‘Manage your details’ from the profile icon at the top of the page. 

Alternatively you can get in touch with us. If you haven’t done so already, you may also wish to inform your employer.

If you’re not registered for Manage Your Account, it’s quick and easy to do and allows you to manage your pension savings online.

Legal & General may, from time to time, change the way we communicate with you. We will select what we consider to be the most appropriate method of communication. This may vary depending on the type and content of the communication and may include printed and online formats.

Every year Legal & General will create a statement for you setting out how much has been paid in and what your arrangement is worth. Unless you have requested a paper statement it will be available online in Manage Your Account. Legal & General will let you know when it is available to view.

Opting out is easy (within 30 day opt-out period) 

To opt out immediately you can visit WorkSave Choice where you can log on using your enrolment code that was provided on your enrolment communication and follow the easy steps.

Or, if you don't have online access you can call Legal & General on 0345 026 8982 to request that an opt out form is sent to you at your home address. Call charges will vary. We may record and monitor calls.

Opting out after 30 days

If it’s been more than 30 days since you received your enrolment communication and you want to opt out, you’ll need to visit Manage Your AccountOpens in new tab to complete our online form. If you can’t access MYA you can call us on 0345 026 0001.

If you opted out online you will receive an instant confirmation that your request to opt out has been successful.

If you opted out by completing and returning the opt out form to Legal & General, you will only receive confirmation of opting out if a pension contribution has been made.

Your employer is required to automatically enrol you again every three years into the workplace pension scheme if you are still eligible. You will have the right to opt out again.

Your employer is required to enrol you every three years if you’re still eligible and not a current member of the pension plan. That’s as long as you’re between 22 and below State Pension age, and are earning over the earnings threshold amount.
